National Teachers Awards

National Teachers Award) is awarded by the Government of India to teachers who have made outstanding contributions in the field of education. This recognition is for meritorious primary, middle and secondary school teachers. This award is an important medium to motivate teachers and honour their role in the society. The scheme is implemented under the overall supervision of the Ministry of Education (MOE).

National Teacher Award Eligibility

Those teachers and principals who fulfill the following criteria will be considered eligible for this award.

  • Must be a full-time teacher or principal working in a government, aided, or recognized private school.
  • Must be a teacher from a reputed institution such as the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), Sainik School, AEES (Atomic Energy Education Society), Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS).
  • Teachers working in private schools affiliated with CBSE or CISCE are also eligible.
  • The teacher must have a minimum of 10 years of service or more.
  • A teacher who has not taught tuition and is working on regular appointment.

How to apply for National Teacher Award?

Step 1: Candidate has to visit the National Teachers Award portal and register himself/herself.

Step 2: While filling the application form, fill the personal details, school details, principal details and answer based sections.

Step 3: Upload details of teaching experience, achievements, innovations, co-curricular activities etc. as portfolio in PDF or video format.

Step 4: It’s mandatory to fill out a self-declaration (undertaking) in which you confirm that the information provided is true. Then, submit the form.

National Teacher Award Selection Process

  • The portfolio and video presentation will be evaluated by a national jury.
  • The panel will consist of five members, including academic experts, administrators, and policymakers.
  • A maximum of 50 teachers will be selected, including those from special categories (e.g., disabled, rural schools).
  • Selected teachers will receive an honorarium, trophy, and TA/DA.

Online nominations from eligible teachers for National Teachers’ Awards. President will confer the National Awards to Teachers at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, today.
