The Maharashtra government has launched the Maharashtra Disability Marriage Scheme to encourage marriages of disabled persons. Under this scheme, if a disabled person marries a normal person, the government will give him an incentive amount of Rs 1.50 lakh and if a disabled person marries a disabled person, he will get an incentive amount of Rs 2.50 lakh.
Disability is often associated with disability, which impacts important decisions like marriage. Women with disabilities, in particular, face double discrimination. This initiative has been taken to change this thinking and bring the disabled into the mainstream of society.
