Female Child Birth Gift Scheme

Girl Child Birth Benefit Scheme: Central and state governments run several welfare schemes for citizens of the country. One of these schemes is the Female Child Birth Gift Scheme. Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs 51,000 is provided when a daughter is born in the family.

Female Child Birth Gift Scheme

This scheme is currently run by the Himachal Pradesh government. It encourages the birth of daughters and ensures long-term financial security for their future education and security. Female Child Birth Gift Scheme has been launched by Himachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (HPBOCWWB). Under this scheme, the Board deposits an amount of Rs 51,000 in the name of each daughter up to two daughters in the form of Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR), which can be withdrawn only after the daughter attains the age of 18 years.

Eligibility for the scheme

• The worker’s Welfare Board membership must be active at the time of application.
• The worker must have paid at least two months’ membership fee to the Welfare Board.
• This benefit will only be valid upon the birth of a maximum of two daughters of the registered worker.

Conditions for registration as a building/construction worker

• The applicant must be a resident of Himachal Pradesh.
• The applicant must be a building or construction worker.
• Applicants must be between 18 and 60 years of age.
• They must have worked in building or construction work for at least 90 days in the last 12 months.
• It is mandatory to renew labor registration every year.

Application Process

• Applicants must visit the Labor Welfare Office and obtain an application form from the relevant officer.
• Enter all required information in the application form and attach self-attested copies of the required documents.
• The filled in and signed application form must be submitted along with the salary slip or appointment letter issued by the employer.
• If these documents are not available, work certificate issued by the local authority (such as Councillor, Executive Officer or Panchayat Secretary) can also be submitted.
• After submitting all documents and the prescribed fees, the worker will be given a receipt confirming their registration.
• This receipt must be kept for future reference, as it serves as proof of registration.

The Himachal Pradesh Female Child Birth Gift Scheme has helped improve the birth rate of girls in the state. This scheme has also led to a positive change in attitudes toward girls.
