Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana has been launched by the central government. Due to this scheme, poor families get gas connection for free. The scheme was launched on 1st May 2016 in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi.

Using traditional cooking fuels negatively impacts women’s health. This is why the central government launched the Ujjwala Yojana. This scheme provides free gas connections to poor families. Under the PMUY, the government provides gas cylinders to poor and needy individuals for ₹550.

What is the Prime Minister’s Ujjwala Scheme?

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) was started by the Central Government in the year 2016. The objective of this scheme is to provide clean fuel (LPG) to poor and needy families, especially women in rural areas, so that they can get relief from smoke-filled stoves and their health can be protected.

In the first phase of the scheme, over 100 million connections were issued under the Ujjwala scheme. Following this, Ujjwala 2.0 was launched, and by December 2024, over 23.4 million connections had been provided. Now, the central government has approved 2.5 million new connections, with a budget of ₹676 crore approved for this.
