Balika Samridhi Yojana (BSY) is initiative of the Government of India in support of the birth of a girl child and her education. The Balika Samriddhi Yojana will cover girl children in families below the poverty line (BPL). This scheme takes the initiative to support the birth of girl children and promotes education. Balika Samriddhi Yojana is implemented in urban areas through Health Department.
Balika Samridhi Yojana
Indian Government introduced Balika Samridhi Yojana (BSY) in 1997 under the Department of Women and Child Development. Under this scheme, financial assistance is provided by the government from the birth of the girl child till her education.
Annual Scholarships for the girl children born on or after 15th August 1997 and are registered under the BSY. The details of the scholarship are given below:

Note: Only two girl children in a family can avail the benefits under this scheme regardless of the total number of children are there in the household.

Eligibility for Balika Samridhi Yojana
Here is a list of eligibility conditions which are required to be fulfilled by the candidate to get the benefits from BSY:
- Only two girl children in a family are eligible for the scheme, irrespective of the number of girl child in that family
- Girl child born to an urban family residing in slum area is also eligible for the scheme
- Girl child of rag-pickers, payment vendor, and vegetable and fruit sellers are also eligible for the scheme benefits
- Girl child of BPL (Below Poverty Line) cardholders are eligible for the scheme as the Government of India
Documents Required to Apply for Balika Samridhi Yojana
Birth Certificate of the Girl Child: Issued by the hospital where the girl child was born or by the Government
Address Proof of the parents or legal guardia: Passport, Driving License, Electricity or Telephone Bill, Voter ID Card, Ration Card or any other address proof issued by Govt. of India.
Parents’ or Legal Guardian’s Identity Proof: Passport, PAN Card, Matriculation Certificate, Voter ID Card or any other certificate issued by Govt. of India which validates the identity of the girl child.

To apply for the Balika Samriddhi Yojana, you will have to go to the nearest Anganwadi centre and get the application form from there. After entering all the information in the application form, the form along with the necessary documents has to be submitted at the Anganwadi centre itself. After submitting your application form, you start getting its benefits in the form of financial assistance immediately after the authenticity of that application form is verified.
