Balika Samridhi Yojana

Balika Samridhi Yojana (BSY) is initiative of the Government of India in support of the birth of a girl child and her education.Through the Balika Samriddhi Yojana, financial assistance is to be provided to families living below the poverty line. Under this scheme, Rs 500 is given as incentive at the time of birth of a daughter.

This scheme was started in the year 1997 by the Department of Women and Child Development, Government of India. Under this scheme, financial assistance is provided by the government from the birth of the girl child till her education.

To apply for the Balika Samriddhi Yojana, you can apply both online and offline. Girls born on or after 15 August 1997 will be registered and financial assistance will be provided.

Objectives of the Scheme

  • Raising the girl child before attainment of legal age for marriage

Note:  Only two girl children in a family can avail the benefits under this scheme regardless of the total number of children are there in the household.

Eligibility for Balika Samridhi Yojana

Here is a list of eligibility conditions which are required to be fulfilled by the candidate to get the benefits from BSY:

  • Only two girl children in a family are eligible for the scheme, irrespective of the number of girl child in that family 
  • Girl child born to an urban family residing in slum area is also eligible for the scheme 
  • Girl child of rag-pickers, payment vendor, and vegetable and fruit sellers are also eligible for the scheme benefits 
  • Girl child of BPL (Below Poverty Line) cardholders are eligible for the scheme as the Government of India

Documents Required to Apply for Balika Samridhi Yojana

Birth Certificate of the Girl Child: Issued by the hospital where the girl child was born or by the Government

Address Proof of the parents or legal guardia: Passport, Driving License, Electricity or Telephone Bill, Voter ID Card, Ration Card or any other address proof issued by Govt. of India.

Identity proof of guardian: Passport, PAN card, Matriculation certificate or any other certificate issued by the Government of India.

All girls benefit from the Balika Samriddhi Yojana. Applicants can visit their nearest Anganwadi center to obtain an application form. After filling out the application form, collect the necessary documents and submit them to the Anganwadi center. The application form will then be verified. If everything is found to be correct, benefits under the scheme will begin.
