Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the launch of the “Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana.” This scheme provides financial assistance from birth to a girl child and throughout her education, including classes 1, 6, 8, 10, and 12. The scheme will come into effect from April 1 and will replace the ‘Laadli Yojana’ launched in 2008. The aim of this scheme is to provide financial security and educational assistance to daughters from economically weaker sections.

How Much Money Will Girls Get and When
The girl must be unmarried until age 18 for the full benefit. The money comes in stages that are linked to the girl’s educational milestones. Here is the stage-wise installment breakdown as per the official rules:
- ₹11,000 at birth
- ₹5,000 at admission to Class 1
- Subsequent installments (₹5,000 each) in classes 6, 8, 10, and 12th.
- ₹20,000 upon completion of a diploma or graduation.
The maturity amount can be withdrawn upon completing the 12th grade and attaining the age of 18, or upon completing a graduation/diploma and attaining the age of 21. If the educational criteria are not met, the amount will be returned to the government account.
Eligibility
- Only a maximum of two daughters from a family will be eligible for this scheme.
- Only daughters from families whose annual income is less than or equal to Rs 1,20,000 will be eligible.
- If a daughter marries before completing her graduation, she will not receive any money from the scheme.
- The government will spend a total of ₹160 crore on this scheme.
Documents Required for Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana
Birth Certificate – This is the most important document as registration is linked to birth. Issued by MCD, NDMC, or hospital.
Income Certificate – From SDM office confirming annual family income does not exceed ₹1.20 lakh.
School/College Enrollment Proof – Admission slip showing enrollment in a recognized institution.
Bank Account Details – Aadhaar-linked bank account details of the mother or girl child.
How to Apply for Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana
The government will also create a separate digital portal for this scheme. All eligible girls can apply and receive benefits under this scheme. Under this scheme, two daughters in a household will receive a total of ₹56,000 each at different times until they complete their education.
