It’s easy to apply for a PAN card online. You can apply for a PAN card by visiting the official websites of NSDL and UTIITSL. This process is completely online, and you can get your PAN card using just your Aadhaar card.
Now you can apply for a PAN card from the comfort of your home. You can apply by visiting the government website incometax.gov.in. The fee for obtaining a PAN card must be paid online.
What is a PAN card?
The PAN card, or “Permanent Account Number,” is an important document issued by the Income Tax Department. This card contains a 10-digit alphanumeric unique number that is used for various financial transactions, including filing income tax returns.
Eligibility for Applying for PAN Card
A PAN card is an essential document, although it is completely different from an Aadhaar card and voter ID. The following individuals and entities are eligible to apply for a PAN card:
- Indian citizens aged 18 years and above
- Hindu Undivided Families
- Companies and LLPs
- Partnership firms
- Trusts and associations of persons
- Foreign nationals and NRIs
Document
Certain documents are required to obtain a PAN card. Below are the documents required to be submitted along with the PAN card application:
Aadhaar Card – as proof of identity and address
Form 49A – Application form for PAN card (online or offline)
Address proof – such as ration card, electricity bill, bank statement, etc.
Mobile number – for OTP verification
Passport-sized photo – if required for offline application or photo upload
ITR return/income proof – if applicable, especially in cases of business or high income

How to Apply for PAN Card Online?
If you haven’t already, you can get your PAN card made online or offline. Online processes are faster and paperless. The available online methods include:

How to make PAN Card from NSDL Portal?
If your PAN card is not yet made and you want to make it online, then the complete step by step process is given below –
Step 1: Visit the official website
- First, open the official NSDL website from your mobile or computer.
- Once you’re on the website, you’ll find the “Apply Online” option.
- There, select “New PAN – Indian Citizen (Form 49A)” in “Application Type”.
- After that, select “Individual” in “Category”.
- Now enter the captcha by filling in the Name, Date of Birth, Email ID, Mobile Number etc. below.
- Now click on “Submit”.
Step 2: Note down the token number
- You will now receive a token number.
- Then click on “Continue with PAN Application Form.”
Step 3: Fill in your personal details (Form 49A)
- You must now fill out Form 49A, providing the following information:
- Applicant’s Personal Details (Name, Parents’ Names, Date of Birth)
- Communication Address
- Identity Proof, Address Proof, and Date of Birth Proof
Step 4: Upload documents
- Now you need to upload three important documents:
- Aadhaar Card (ID and Address Proof)
- Birth Certificate or 10th Class Marksheet (DOB Proof)
- Scanned Passport Size Photo + Signature
Step 5: Pay the fee
- PAN Card Fees for Indian Citizens:
- ₹107 for Physical PAN
- ₹72 for E-PAN Only
- Payment can be made through Net Banking, UPI, debit card, or credit card.
- Once the payment is successful, your application will be submitted.
- Now download and print the Acknowledgement Receipt.
After applying for a PAN card, your PAN card is generated approximately one month later, and is then posted to the address you provided.
