Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme was introduced by the Department of Women Development Government of West Bengal, aims to improve the status and well-being of girls. Through this scheme, Conditional Cash Transfers are provided to incentivise girls to continue their education. In this article, we look at the Kanyashree Prakalpa scheme in detail.
Objectives of the Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme
- To provide financial help to the girls from disadvantaged families to pursue higher studies
- Eliminate the malnutrition and undernutrition of girl children.
- To prevent child marriage in West Bengal by increasing the enrolment of girls in secondary education, vocational or sports training
- To encourage the delay of marriages for girls until they reach the age of 18
- To help students to continue their education for a long time
Eligibility
- The applicant should be a resident of West Bengal.
- The applicant should be enrolled and regularly attending an educational institution.
- The applicant should be unmarried.
- The applicant should be from a family where the total income is not more than ₹1,20,000/- per year.
- The applicant for the Annual Scholarship (K1) should be between the ages of 13 and 18 years.
- The applicant for the One-Time Grant (K2) should be between the ages of 18 and 19 years.
Documents Required
- Age proof document – a copy of the birth certificate
- A statement of declaration of being unmarried
- Income certificate
- Certificate of enrolment and attendance by Head of Institution of Education or Training
- Copy of certificate of disability (for disabled girls)
- Photocopy of bank passbook
Process to Apply for Kanyashree Prakalpa Yojana
Step 1: Collect the application from the institution/school.
Step 2: Open a bank account in the beneficiary’s name.
Step 3: Submit the completed application form along with attested and attached documents to the Head Teacher of the school/institution.
The Annual scholarship or one-time grant will be paid to the beneficiaries by the DBT. After the approval of the application, the applicant will receive amount in bank account.
