Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Scheme provides financial assistance of ₹1000 directly to women in Tamil Nadu state. This is one of the women’s empowerment schemes and helps to reduce their dependency on others and boosts their economic participation in the state.
Under this scheme, the government provide, ₹1000 monthly support to help these women live better and take care of themselves. The money is sent directly into the bank accounts of the women through the DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) system. The women will not need to go anywhere and the money will be sent to their bank accounts while sitting at home.

Eligible for the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Scheme
- Must be a permanent female resident of Tamil Nadu
- Age should be 21 years or above
- Should belong to a financially weak household
- Annual family income should be below Rs. 2.5 lakh
- Land holding should be less than 5 acres wetland or 10 acres dryland
- Electricity consumption should be less than 3600 units per year
- No ownership of four-wheelers
- Not paying GST or income tax
- Not government employees or pensioners
- Only one woman beneficiary per ration card
