The central government has launched the PM Internship Scheme to provide employment to unemployed youth. Under this scheme, approximately 10 million unemployed youth are being provided internship opportunities with the country’s top 500 companies. This will provide employment opportunities to the youth and they will be able to learn about various professions.
Approximately 1.25 lakh people will be provided internships under the Pradhan Mantri Internship Scheme. This scheme, launched under the Payal Project, will also provide financial assistance of ₹5,000 per month from the government to those receiving training.

What is PM Internship Scheme?
The PM Internship Scheme was launched by the central government for youth. The aim of this scheme is to encourage youth to pursue internships and provide them with more career opportunities. Internship allowance of ₹5000 will be given every month
The PM Internship Yojana aims to provide better employment opportunities for youth, as well as financial assistance to help them focus on their careers. Under this scheme, an internship allowance of Rs 5,000 will also be provided every month, which will include Rs 4,500 from the central government and Rs 500 from the company.
The first phase of the PM Internship Scheme will last two years, while the second phase will last three years. Under this scheme, the company will cover the cost of training the youth.
- A lump sum of ₹6,000 will be given upon joining.
- A stipend of ₹5,000 per month will be given for 12 months.
- ₹4,500 will be deposited into the intern’s account every month from the government.
- ₹500 will be released by companies from their CSR funds.
- However, this will depend on the intern’s attendance, work ethic, behavior, and company policies.
- If the company wishes, it may pay the intern more than ₹500 from its own funds.

Eligibility required for PM Internship
- Applicants must be citizens of India.
- Be between 21 and 24 years of age by the application deadline.
- You must not be employed or pursuing regular education.
- Those studying online or through open learning can apply.
- The applicant’s family’s annual income should not exceed ₹8 lakh.
- The applicant, neither their parents nor their spouse, should be in a government job.

These youth will not get the benefit of PM Internship Scheme
- Graduates from IITs, IIMs, National Law University, IISERs, NIDs, and IIITs
- Those who hold a CA, CMA, CS, MBBS, BDS, MBA, or any other higher or master’s degree
- Those who are already doing an internship under a central or state government program
- Those who have trained under the National Apprenticeship Training System (NATS) or
- National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS)
